Kursöversikt
The course has a module structure, with the following themes:
- Mixed modelling problems I and II - course week 1-2. The course starts as a continuation of Mathematical thinking, but where problems on the average are on a higher level and more modelling oriented. These modules are structurally similar to the Mathematical thinking course, with supervision and a compulsory follow-up lecture in the following week.
- The electricity system I and II - course week 3-4. Here we will investigate modelling of a complex technical system, using simulation and optimization.
- Climate modelling I, II, III and IV - course week 5-8. Here we will investigate how a complex global system, the Earth system, can be simulated. We will use models of different scales and complexity with a focus on understanding the limitations of climate models and what that means for prognosis of the future climate. Within these modules you will get to know different tools to analyse, evaluate and discuss climate data.

Examination, grading and compulsory activities
The course is examined module by module continuously through submissions, including quizzes, which must all pass. Exact requirements and deadlines can be found in the module descriptions and assignments. Additionally, there is an individual oral discussion during exam week.
There are some compulsory scheduled activities:
- Follow-up lecture for module 1 (September 9)
- Follow-up lecture for module 2 (September 16)
- Electrical system follow-up 3 (September 28, preliminary)
- Workshop module 7 (October 7 and October 14)
- Workshop module 8 (October 16 and October 19)
The course grade is pass or not pass.
If you should not complete the course in time, and need to come back next year, it is in your best interest to keep copies of your solutions to enable future assessment.
