There have been quite many worried questions about the availability of supervisors for the master thesis course, and several indications that students have difficulties in getting a yes from potential supervisors. We are highly aware of the situation and had a meeting about this last Monday, where a number of things were decided to help the situation.

We reviewed all available staff at Interaction Design, and made suggestions for an additional seven or eight supervisor slots. Division manager Palle Dahlstedt and director of studies Sus Lyckvi are now working with ensuring these slots with each individual teacher, and revising the list of how many projects each supervisor shall take. The new list will be published by MPA Thommy Eriksson in the course room for the master thesis in Canvas. The plan is to have the new list available at the latest on Friday December 7th.
There is a misunderstanding among some teachers that the supervision duty is non-mandatory. This is wrong. Each supervisor is obliged to fill his or her allocated supervision slots. Thus, supervisors are not allowed to turn down requests from students, unless there is a serious problem with lack of qualifications (for example, it is a highly technical project and the supervisor is rather an expert on design, or the vice-verse), or the supervisor already have all slots taken. Division manager Palle Dahlstedt will make this clear for everyone latest on December 7th.
The students are – as always in the master thesis project – encouraged to work in pairs. This not only mitigates the problem with available supervisors, but also have the benefit that you can do a more finalized project, get a more impressive portfolio item, and learn more.
